What is a psychological assessment?

A psychological assessment is the gathering of information including standardized assessments, interviews, and observations, to assist with understanding the strengths and weaknesses of the child. This information guides recommendations to help the child in their area(s) of weaknesses.

can I sit in on the testing?

It is not recommended, in most testing manuals, to have parents or guardians sit in on testing as this can break standardization of the assessment.

can I get these services at my child's school?

Most services offered at Children's Psychological Services, LLC can be obtained at the child's school at no cost. The benefits of having your child evaluated privately include: a more in-depth approach to evaluation, a testing environment outside of the school setting, and the flexibility with determining which areas to evaluate. Most school's will only evaluate in the area of concern evident in the school setting.

how much are the services?

This varies and is dependent on the type of evaluation. Please contact us for further information.

Do you accept insurance?

Insurance is not currently accepted. However, a superbill can be provided for you to submit to your PPO insurance provider, which may allow for a reimbursement of up to 60%.

what forms of payment are accepted?

Cash, Check, Health Savings Account (HSA), credit cards, and debit cards are currently accepted. Checks can be made out to Children’s Psychological Services.

how Soon Are evaluation results available?

Typically, reports will be available within two weeks after the last piece of data is collected. This may be the day of testing or for larger evaluations, the day we receive rating scales from teachers.

is this practice insured?

Yes, all members of Children's Psychological Services, LLC are insured through NASP (National Association of School Psychologists) approved insurance providers.

What is the cost of services?

The cost ranges from $110 - $1,750+ depending on services provided. 

where does testing and counseling take place?

At 9040 Town Center Parkway, Lakewood Ranch, Florida 34202, or in the comfort of your own home.

will a psychological evaluation guarantee my child is found eligible for an exceptional student education or educational program?

No. The psychological evaluation can be shared with the school, psychiatrists, therapists, doctors, etc. but it will not guarantee placement into a program.

is there a difference between a clinical diagnosis and an educational diagnosis?

Yes. A clinical diagnosis is made by a qualified professional based on symptoms and criteria across settings and how much the disorder impacts daily functioning. A clinical diagnosis does not always require an educational diagnosis. An educational diagnosis is needed when the impairment impacts the child's functioning to learn at school. Therefore, a child can be diagnosed clinically and/or educationally.

Does my child need counseling services?

If you notice your child is having daily difficulties in a specific area then it may be beneficial for them to receive counseling., which can provide them with strategies and skills to use during these times.

Dr. Roth has a Psy.D. what does that mean?

A Psy.D. is a Doctorate of Psychology. Dr. Roth's specific degree is a Doctorate of Psychology in School Psychology with a concentration in Intervention and Mental Health Counseling. Do the team members of children’s psychological services have the necessary credentials to practice independently?

Yes. Dr. Roth is a Licensed School Psychologist in active and good standing with the Florida Department of Health. License SS1318.

Desiree is a credentialed Board Certified Behavioral Analyst who is certified to provide independent behavior analytic services. 

All other team members are either licensed or are being supervised to become licensed.
